What is the hair fiber and why is it so versatile?
The hair fiber is made up of the outside which is called the cuticle, which is similar to a scales layered on top of one another to form a tight seal, the cortex which is the inside of the hair fiber, and the medulla at the very center. Hair is made of proteins, lipids, and minerals and pigments. Hair is made of melanin, which is natural pigment found in skin and hair. There are two types in hair: eumelanin, and pheomelanin. The eu melanin helps to produce the darker brown and black colors found in hair. Also a person lacking eu melanin can have grey hair. Pheomelanin imparts the yellow to red range of colors and is found in red heads and blondes and also in lips, etc.
